the word Piano may not be in the title but it is a love story centered
around a man w a piano who plays every day and sells it for love. i
saw it in Spain in 1995, and i still remember it. it was a foreign
film with subtitles, and revolved around a young woman who moves into
a man's house to clean it as rent to stay there and live with him.
he is an older man who plays piano every day, and she hears it as she
cleans. his music is beautiful. man starts to fall for maid who's
soldier husband has been captured by enemy forces and is being held
for ransom. the man with the piano eventually asks the woman what she
wants to be happy, as he has fallen for her. she says she wants her
husband home free. the man sells his one prize possession his piano
to make the woman happy who is not even in love with him. the money
buys the soldier's return, but the woman sees how much the other guy
is willing to sacrifice for her and she falls for him instead. She
does not answer when her soldier husband knocks on the door where she
lives after his release as she now loves the man she already lives
with who sold the piano.
the piano is also on the second floor and there is a dramatic scene
where the piano is lowered out of the window and it looks like it will
fall or break but doesn't..
has anyone out there seen this movie or remember the title? i have
googled every detail i can remember and nothing.
i saw the film in 1995 too if that helps.
